What is Tarawih? Tarawih (تراويح) also spelled Taraweeh, are extra prayers performed by Muslims at night in the month of Ramadan. Tarawih prayers can last into the night and be very long.
The prayerful perform many cycles of standing upright, bowing, prostrating, sitting, and read from the Holy Quran. After each of the four cycles, participants sit for a brief period of rest before continuing—this is where the name tarawih ("rest or recreation prayer") comes from.
