Driving License Category A2
The category A2 driving license allows you to drive motorcycles without a sidecar with the maximum engine power of 35 kW. The power/weight ratio of the motorcycle cannot exceed 0.2kW/kg.
The step-by-step construction of this driving license permits you to obtain your small motorcycle driving licence earlier and then gradually move up to higher engine power with the A2 license.
Scooters and motorcycles
The second level of motorcycle licence is the driving license category A2. It permits you to drive small-sized motorcycles (up to 50cc) and mopeds with a maximum cubic capacity of 125cc. This class allows you to gradually increase the horsepower of your vehicle, and also to dream of larger engines. The test is more challenging and requires more understanding.
The category A2 driving licence is valid until you reach the age of 24. It can be used together with a category A1 car driving licence or as an interim driver's license. If you are over 24 years, however you must have a category B driving license is required to drive motorcycles that exceed 35 kW.
You can obtain an A1 group driving license at the age of 16 (in Denmark and Malta, 15; in Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia 14). When you reach the age of 16 you'll need to pass the A2 category motorbike test. You must pass this test before the age of 18. Then, after two years, you are able to change to the category A.
After passing the test for category A2, you are permitted to ride a motorcycle, either with or without a sidecar, as well as vehicles with up to 35 kW of power. These vehicles must also have a weight/power ratio of not greater than 0.2 kW/kg and cannot be made from a vehicle that has twice the power of the maximum.
If you have passed a two-part moped or motorcycle test of lower category since 1st July 1996, then you are able to skip the theory test and take the test in practice. The AM licence is only valid if you've passed your theory test and attended nine hours of training divided into theory and practical instruction at driving schools.
Vehicles with four wheels
This category includes all motor vehicles with four wheels that are not buses or passenger cars. This category includes utility vehicles, such as pickups, vans and panels. Campers, motorhomes and lorries are also covered. This category could also include vehicles like ambulances, hearses and carryalls which are designed to accommodate more than eight people or have a maximum authorized mass of greater than 500 kg. A1 drivers are able to operate vehicles of this type with a trailer weighing up to 750kg.
You must have passed the theory exam to be able to drive a car in this category. You must complete 12 90-minute classes on the basic material, and 4 90-minute lessons on the additive (category AA2). The test for the theory has a pass mark of 70%.
If you pass the theory test, you will have to take a driving exam on private land and on public roads. Once you have passed both of these tests, you will be issued with an application for a driving license. This request should be submitted to the local authority three years after passing the practical test.
After you pass your driving test, it is possible to drive vehicles that fall under the category A2. In some countries, after holding an A1 license for two years, there's no need to take a separate test to obtain a category A2 driving license which permits you to drive motorcycles with up to 35 kW. This permits you to learn on less powerful two-wheelers before upgrading to more powerful machines.
If you have a driver's licence in category A2, you can use a tricycle so long as it has the capacity of 125cc, and the maximum power output of 11 kW. This category was previously part of the A license. All drivers who obtained a full category A licence prior to the 19th January 2013 were entitled to use mopeds, and they were able to keep that right.

It is also possible to use it to drive tricycles with motors. The minimum age for this class of license is 16 years old. Physically disabled people may be granted the privilege of driving category A1 or A prawojazdy na motor tricycles.
Some people choose to obtain an operator license which is valid for vehicles with a the maximum authorized mass of 3,500kg and up to eight seats. Driver's licenses allow them to tow trailers of up to 750kg MAM. They can also operate a tractor or a construction machine with a trailer of up to 3,500kg MAM.

Motor vehicles with trailers
The category A2 includes motorized vehicles with trailers. These are not vehicles pulled by the driver, but rather are towed behind larger vehicles, such as cars. In addition to the categories above, you can also be granted a driving license for other vehicles that have special requirements. You need a special licence to drive a big vehicle (category C), which requires you to know the regulations for the transportation of hazardous goods.
